Many people are curious about endodontics, and some may not have heard of endodontics prior to needing root canal treatment or another service. At Blue Bonnet Endodontics, we are committed to providing personalized, quality care. This commitment includes helping you understand what endodontics is so that you can understand your treatment options and make the best decisions for your oral health.
Endodontics is one of the nine recognized fields of dental specialties and focuses on diagnosing and treating problems involving the dental pulp. The pulp is the innermost layer of the tooth containing the living connective tissue and cells, the tooth nerves, and the blood vessels. When this pulp becomes infected or injured, it can result in significant pain and sensitivity. If left untreated, it can cause the tooth to die and require an extraction. Endodontic treatment usually involves the removal of diseased, decayed or otherwise damaged tissue to prevent the tooth from being extracted.
An endodontist is a dental specialist. In addition to completing dental school, endodontists also receive up to two years of additional training in order to learn how to effectively treat problems involving the dental pulp and inner tissues of the tooth. This includes services such as root canal therapy, cracked teeth treatment and treatments for traumatic injuries.
